1 Description
Propósito
This application note explains how to configure the IP address of a Televac® MX200 EthernetIP interface using the MX200 web interface. It also explains how to temporarily configure a Windows computer for direct communication with the MX200 and how to verify EthernetIP network connectivity after setup.
Network Configuration
To communicate with a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), the MX200 EthernetIP interface must be configured with an IP address and subnet mask appropriate for the network.
For this procedure, the Windows computer is temporarily configured to communicate with the MX200 at its default network settings. After the MX200 network settings are changed, the computer is returned to its original network configuration.
Alternate Configuration Method
This application note uses the MX200 web interface to configure the EthernetIP network settings.
If internet access is available and the HMS IPConfig Utility can be used, refer to: Televac® Application Note 3017 - Configuring the MX200 EthernetIP Address Using the HMS IPConfig Utility
Información adicional
Refer to the MX200 Instruction Manual for detailed information about Class 1 and Class 3 EthernetIP communications and the complete ADI table.
After configuring the MX200 EthernetIP network settings, refer to Televac® Application Note 3016 - Loading EDS Files for Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLCs for instructions on registering the EDS file and establishing the PLC connection.
Back to Table of Contents2 Required Equipment, Tools, and Software
| Equipment/Tool | Part Number/Requirement |
|---|---|
| Controlador de vacío MX200 | 2-7900-37 - MX200 with the EthernetIP module installed. |
| Windows Computer | Computer used to access the MX200 EthernetIP web interface and configure its network settings |
| Ethernet Cable | Used to connect the MX200 EthernetIP port to the computer |
| Web Browser | Used to access the MX200 EthernetIP web interface |
| Network Information | IP address and subnet mask appropriate for the network where the MX200 will be installed |
| Current Computer Network Settings | Existing IPv4 address, subnet mask, default gateway, and other applicable settings that must be restored after configuration |
IMPORTANT
Before changing the computer's network settings, record the existing IPv4 configuration.
These settings must be restored after the MX200 EthernetIP interface has been configured.
The IP address assigned to the MX200 must also be appropriate for the target network and must not conflict with another device.
3 Configure the Computer for Direct Communication with the MX200
Connect the MX200 EthernetIP port on the back of the unit directly to the Windows computer using an Ethernet cable.
Open the Windows network settings and locate the Ethernet connection connected to the MX200.
Open the Ethernet connection status, then select: Properties
In the Ethernet Properties window, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
Then click: Properties
Before changing any settings, record the computer's current IPv4 configuration.
Record the applicable values, including:
- IP Address
- Subnet Mask
- Default Gateway
These settings will need to be restored after the MX200 has been configured.
In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window, select Use the following IP address, then enter the following temporary network settings. Click OK to continue.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| IP Address | 192.168.0.9 |
| Subnet Mask | 255.255.255.0 |
| Default Gateway | 192.168.0.8 |
The Windows computer and MX200 are now on the same local network.
The MX200 EthernetIP interface uses the default IP address: 192.168.0.8
The computer is temporarily configured as: 192.168.0.9
4 Configure the MX200 EthernetIP Address Using the Web Interface
Open a web browser and enter the default MX200 EthernetIP address: 192.168.0.8
When prompted, enter the default username and password.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Username | Admin |
| Password | admin |
After signing in, the MX200 EthernetIP web interface should be displayed.
Select the Configuration tab.
Enter the IP Address and Subnet Mask appropriate for the network where the MX200 will be installed.
The IP address assigned to the MX200 must not already be in use by another device on the network.
IMPORTANT
Use an IP address and subnet mask appropriate for your network. Verify that the selected IP address is not already assigned to another device.
Contact your network administrator or IT department if you are unsure which settings should be used.
After entering the desired network configuration, click Save Settings to save the changes.
After saving the network settings, cycle power to the MX200 so the new EthernetIP settings take effect.
5 Restore the Computer Network Settings
Return to the Windows Ethernet adapter settings and open:
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties
Use the same process followed in Sections 3.2 and 3.3.
Restore the computer to the original IPv4 settings recorded in Section 3.4.
This may include:
- IP Address
- Subnet Mask
- Default Gateway
Enter the original values exactly as they were recorded before the temporary configuration was applied.
Click OK to save the restored network configuration.
The computer should now be returned to its normal network settings and ready to communicate on the target network.
6 Verify Network Connectivity
Open a web browser and enter the new IP address assigned to the MX200 EthernetIP interface.
When prompted, enter:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Username | Admin |
| Password | admin |
If the MX200 is connected to the network correctly, the EthernetIP web interface should be displayed.
From the web interface, verify that the expected EthernetIP network settings are shown.
Once network connectivity has been verified, the MX200 is ready to be configured for communication with the PLC.
Refer to Televac® Application Note 3016 - Loading EDS Files for Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLCs for instructions on registering the MX200 EDS file and creating the PLC connection.
